Citizens Behavioral Health provides behavioral health services through our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults and youth. We are seeking an experienced Accountant or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, payroll support, and financial compliance activities. This position plays an essential role in maintaining the financial health and stability of our organization.

Position Summary

The Accountant / CPA is responsible for managing bookkeeping, financial reporting, payroll oversight, account reconciliation, and financial compliance processes. This role works closely with leadership and administrative staff to ensure accurate financial records, timely reporting, and sound financial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Management

  • Maintain accurate financial records and bookkeeping systems.
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and financial account reviews.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Monitor cash flow and support budgeting and financial planning initiatives.
  • Assist leadership with financial analysis and reporting.

Payroll & Financial Compliance

  • Coordinate payroll processing and payroll-related reporting.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable payroll, tax, and financial regulations.
  • Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation.
  • Support employee onboarding and payroll-related administrative processes.
  • Assist with financial compliance and internal control procedures.

Tax Preparation & Audit Support

  • Assist with tax preparation and year-end financial reporting.
  • Prepare documentation and schedules for audits, reviews, and financial examinations.
  • Support organizational reporting requirements and financial documentation requests.
  • Ensure financial records are organized, accurate, and audit-ready.

Financial Reporting & Strategic Support

  • Prepare financial summaries and management reports for leadership.
  • Assist with budget development and financial forecasting.
  • Provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency and financial performance.
  • Support financial decision-making through accurate reporting and analysis.

Administrative & Business Operations Support

  • Coordinate with billing, administrative, and leadership teams.
  • Assist with vendor payments, contract tracking, and financial record maintenance.
  • Support business operations through accurate financial monitoring and reporting.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives when appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or financial management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and financial reporting tools.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CPA license.
  • Experience working with healthcare, behavioral health, nonprofit, or small business organizations.
  • Experience with payroll systems and tax reporting processes.
  • Knowledge of healthcare billing and revenue cycle operations.
  • Experience supporting audits and financial reviews.
