Citizens Behavioral Health provides compassionate, evidence-based behavioral health services for adults experiencing mental health and co-occurring substance use challenges. We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Clinical Director to provide clinical leadership, oversee treatment quality, and support the continued growth of our behavioral health programs.

Position Summary

The Clinical Director serves as the clinical leader for our Behavioral Health Day Program and is responsible for ensuring the delivery of effective, person-centered, and evidence-based treatment services. This role combines leadership responsibilities with direct clinical involvement and works closely with organizational leadership to support quality care, staff development, and program success.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide leadership and guidance for all clinical services and treatment activities.
  • Develop and maintain clinical policies, procedures, and treatment protocols.
  • Promote evidence-based practices and high standards of care throughout the program.
  • Support clinical decision-making and treatment effectiveness.

Treatment Planning & Clinical Oversight

  • Review and oversee assessments, treatment plans, progress reviews, and discharge planning.
  • Ensure treatment services remain individualized, goal-oriented, and clinically appropriate.
  • Monitor service quality and client outcomes.
  • Support continuity of care and treatment coordination.

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for clinical staff.
  • Conduct individual and group supervision meetings.
  • Support staff growth, performance improvement, and clinical excellence.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new team members.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Monitor clinical documentation and service delivery standards.
  • Lead internal quality reviews and support external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Program Development

  • Assist in developing new clinical services, treatment groups, and program enhancements.
  • Monitor program performance and client outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and service improvement.
  • Support implementation of innovative treatment approaches.

Risk Management & Client Safety

  • Support crisis intervention efforts and clinical risk management.
  • Review safety plans, incident reports, and clinical concerns.
  • Promote a safe and supportive treatment environment.
  • Provide guidance during complex clinical situations.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner with executive leadership, medical providers, and program staff.
  • Support interdisciplinary teamwork and care coordination.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and organizational initiatives.
  • Represent clinical services within the organization and community when appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or Doctoral Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Active and unrestricted professional licensure in North Carolina.
  • Minimum 5 years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision and leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of behavioral health treatment practices and clinical documentation standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to mentor staff and support a culture of clinical excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in PHP, IOP, Day Treatment, or similar behavioral health settings.
  • Experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Experience with quality improvement initiatives and program development.
  • Knowledge of healthcare compliance and behavioral health regulations.
