Citizens Behavioral Health provides compassionate, evidence-based behavioral health services for adults through our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). We are seeking a dedicated Lead Therapist to provide direct clinical care, facilitate therapy groups, and serve as a clinical resource for both clients and fellow clinicians. Position Summary

The Lead Therapist serves as a primary clinician within our Adult Day Program, providing individual and group therapy services while supporting clinical excellence across the treatment team. This role combines direct client care with leadership responsibilities and is ideal for a therapist who enjoys mentoring others while maintaining an active caseload.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Clinical Care

  • Provide individual and group therapy services for adult clients.
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups focused on emotional wellness, coping skills, recovery, relapse prevention, and personal growth.
  • Complete clinical assessments, intake evaluations, and treatment planning activities.
  • Maintain an active caseload and provide ongoing therapeutic support.
  • Conduct crisis intervention, risk assessments, and safety planning when necessary.

Group Therapy Leadership

  • Lead engaging and evidence-based therapy groups.
  • Utilize treatment approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and trauma-informed care.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive group environment.
  • Promote client engagement, participation, and treatment progress.

Clinical Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide guidance and peer support to therapists and developing clinicians.
  • Share best practices related to treatment planning, documentation, and client engagement.
  • Support clinical consultations and team collaboration.
  • Serve as a positive role model for professional and ethical clinical practice.

Documentation & Quality Assurance

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Complete progress notes, treatment plan updates, and discharge summaries.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and documentation reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational standards and professional requirements.

Collaboration & Care Coordination

  • Work closely with clinical staff, medical providers, case managers, and leadership.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and case consultations.
  • Support coordinated care and continuity of services.
  • Assist with discharge planning and community resource referrals.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Active professional licensure in North Carolina or eligibility for supervised licensure.
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience working with adult behavioral health populations.
  • Experience facilitating individual and group therapy.
  • Strong clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and treatment planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Commitment to evidence-based and client-centered care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in PHP, IOP, Day Treatment, or intensive outpatient settings.
  • Experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Experience mentoring clinicians or providing peer leadership.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed treatment approaches.
