Citizens Behavioral Health provides comprehensive behavioral health services through our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults and youth experiencing mental health and co-occurring substance use challenges. Our multidisciplinary team is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care that supports recovery, stability, and long-term wellness.

We are seeking an experienced Psychiatrist to serve as Medical Director and Consulting Psychiatrist for our behavioral health programs. This role offers an opportunity to provide clinical leadership, psychiatric expertise, and collaborative support within a growing community-based treatment organization.

Position Summary

The Psychiatrist serves as the medical leader for Citizens Behavioral Health, providing psychiatric evaluations, medication management, clinical consultation, and medical oversight. Working closely with therapists, counselors, and program leadership, the Psychiatrist helps ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based care for individuals receiving behavioral health treatment.

Key Responsibilities

Psychiatric Evaluations & Medication Management

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments.
  • Develop and manage medication treatment plans.
  • Monitor treatment effectiveness, side effects, and client progress.
  • Provide ongoing psychiatric follow-up and medication management services.
  • Support treatment for a wide range of behavioral health conditions and co-occurring disorders.

Medical Leadership & Clinical Oversight

  • Provide medical oversight and psychiatric consultation for behavioral health programs.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff regarding complex cases, treatment planning, and diagnostic clarification.
  • Support evidence-based treatment practices and quality care initiatives.
  • Provide guidance regarding risk management, crisis intervention, and clinical decision-making.
  • Assist with development and review of clinical policies and procedures.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work closely with therapists, counselors, case managers, and leadership staff.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and clinical consultations.
  • Support coordinated care and continuity of services.
  • Collaborate with community providers and healthcare partners when appropriate.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and clinical program development.
  • Participate in audits, reviews, and accreditation activities as needed.
  • Promote ethical, professional, and evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable professional and organizational standards.

Education & Staff Development

  • Provide clinical consultation and educational support to treatment staff.
  • Share expertise regarding psychiatric conditions, medications, and treatment approaches.
  • Support ongoing professional development and clinical excellence throughout the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency Program.
  • Active and unrestricted North Carolina Medical License.
  • Active DEA Registration and all required prescribing credentials.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in PHP, IOP, outpatient behavioral health, or community mental health settings.
  • Experience serving in a Medical Director or clinical leadership role.
  • Experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary treatment teams.
