We are seeking a dedicated SUD Counselor / IOP Facilitator to support adults navigating substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges. This role offers the opportunity to guide individuals through recovery, facilitate therapeutic groups, and make a lasting impact in the lives of those seeking positive change.
Position Summary
The SUD Counselor / IOP Facilitator provides direct substance use treatment services within our Intensive Outpatient Program. This position combines individual counseling, group facilitation, recovery support, and treatment planning to help clients achieve meaningful recovery goals and long-term success.
Key Responsibilities
Substance Use Treatment & Counseling
- Provide individual and group counseling services for adults experiencing substance use and co-occurring behavioral health challenges.
- Facilitate recovery-focused groups covering relapse prevention, coping skills, emotional regulation, wellness, and personal growth.
- Conduct assessments, treatment planning, and ongoing recovery support.
- Support clients in developing healthy coping strategies and long-term recovery plans.
- Provide crisis intervention and support during periods of increased risk or instability.
Group Facilitation & Recovery Education
- Lead structured therapeutic and educational groups.
- Utilize evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), relapse prevention strategies, and trauma-informed care.
- Promote engagement, accountability, and peer support within group settings.
- Encourage positive lifestyle changes and recovery-oriented decision-making.
Recovery Support & Care Coordination
- Collaborate with clients, families, and support systems to strengthen recovery efforts.
- Coordinate care with treatment providers, community resources, and recovery support services.
- Assist with discharge planning and ongoing recovery support recommendations.
- Support continuity of care and community reintegration efforts.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Complete treatment plans, progress notes, assessments, and discharge summaries.
- Support quality assurance and documentation review processes.
- Ensure compliance with confidentiality, ethical, and organizational standards.
Team Collaboration
- Participate in treatment team meetings and case consultations.
- Work closely with therapists, case managers, behavioral health staff, and leadership.
- Support a collaborative and recovery-focused treatment environment.
- Contribute to ongoing program improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
- Active professional licensure in North Carolina or eligibility for supervised licensure.
- Experience working in substance use treatment, behavioral health, or outpatient counseling settings.
- Experience facilitating therapeutic groups.
- Knowledge of addiction recovery principles, relapse prevention, and evidence-based treatment approaches.
- Strong communication, counseling, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to client-centered and recovery-oriented care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), outpatient treatment, or recovery-focused services.
- Experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
- Experience with recovery support programs and community resources.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing techniques.
